Safety Tips

If you’ve never owned a motorbike before you may be unaware of some essential aspects of riding one that can help to ensure your safety.

At Internet Motorbikes we have devised a small list of points which we are certain will help you to stay safe on your bike.

Leathers – Remember to always wear leathers, even if you don’t like the appearance or comfort of them. Bikers wear leathers for a reason – not just to look like Valentino Rossi – but to protect themselves in the event of an accident. So if you’re deciding to go for a trip out somewhere on your Aprilia and you don’t fancy wearing your leathers on a hot summer’s day, think again. Your leathers could be vital in keeping you alive if you should ever have an accident.

Helmet – This point is so obvious that it’s almost not worth mentioning, but we thought we’d throw it in just in case. If you’ve even considered the possibility of riding your motorbike without a helmet then you really shouldn’t be getting one in the first place. Helmets are designed to keep riders alive in the event of a crash, so to not wear one would be exposing yourself to a potential fatality. Not very clever.

Speed – You may be considering the purchase of a motorbike to weave in and out of traffic, you’re tired of waiting behind other cars and you want to get home quicker of a Friday evening. That’s all well and good, but make sure you don’t speed. It is easily done on motorbikes with such quick acceleration, so don’t let your imagination get the better of you when you’re out on the M42 and think it’s ok to do 100mph. It’s not.

Take it easy – Is this your first motorbike? or maybe an experienced rider with a BMW Motorbike. If so then remember that you’re just a beginner, no matter how accomplished you think you may have become. Be careful, and don’t go out showing off like you’re Casey Stoner – you’re not.
